ABC News - June 4, 2010

Police have a made an arrest in two frightening attacks where they say two young girls were grabbed by a man as they were walking on the street in Brooklyn.

A suspect is in custody at the 71st precinct, and parents and children are relieved.

Police say 48 hours ago, two girls told them they were accosted by a deranged young man in a baseball cap. The victims say he wrestled with them on a sidewalk at 5:30 Wednesday evening.

There were two incidents just ten minutes apart.

In one of the alleged assaults, the suspect pulled up the skirt of a 10-year-old girl before her screams ended the incident. The other victim was said to be 13-years-old.

Police identify the suspect as 31-year-old Bjorn Daley. Daley is charged with two counts of forcible touching, two counts of an act in manner to injure a child under the age of 17, and one count of sexual abuse in the third degree.

Police have not released any additional information at this time.

By Matthew Nestel
New York Post - June 4, 2010

Investigators nabbed a sicko who attacked two young girls in Brooklyn, police said today.
Bjorn Daley, 31, of East Flatbush, was identified by the victims — ages 13 and 10 — as the creep who approached them in separate incidents Wednesday.
Daley allegedly first intercepted the 10-year-old near Brooklyn and Kingston Avenues around 10:15 a.m., authorities said. Her screams scared him off.
Ten minutes later police said the same pervert grabbed a 13-year-old’ girl’s arm as she was standing a few blocks away on the corner of Maple Street and Kingston Avenue.
Daley was slapped with unlawful imprisonment, forcible touching, sex abuse, and acting in a manner that injures a child under the age of 17-years-old, officials confirmed.

Cops Nab Sex Attack Suspect; Seek Two in Unrelated Attack
Two Men Raped Victim in Ditmas Park Area
Brooklyn Eagle - June 7, 2010

BROOKLYN — An arrest has been made in one series of Brooklyn sexual assaults, but police Monday were also seeking information about a well-publicized rape in the shadow of Prospect Park.

Bjorn Daley, 31, of Brooklyn was arrested and charged with two sexual assaults involving underaged girls. Police on Wednesday had reported that a 10-year-old girl was forcibly grabbed near Brooklyn and Kingston avenues, but the suspect ran away when the girl screamed.

Ten minutes later, say police, he walked up to a 13-year-old girl at nearby Maple Street and Kingston Avenue and grabbed her by the arm. The girl ran, and the suspect fled on Kingston Avenue. Daley was charged with unlawful imprisonment, forcible touching, acting in a manner to injure a child and sexual abuse.

Police, however, are still looking for a suspect who approached a 19-year-old woman on Wednesday at Linden Boulevard and Bedford Avenue, grabbed her and forced her between two cars, where he sexually assaulted her. He then pushed her several blocks to a secluded area on Parkside Avenue and raped her.

According to police reports, a second suspect then arrived at the scene and also raped her, after which both fled the area.

The first suspect is described as an African-American man, 5-foot-7, 160 pounds, wearing blue jeans, white sneakers and a white T-shirt. The second is described as an African-American man, about 6 feet, wearing a gray sweater, black sneakers, a black baseball hat and a goatee. Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call Crimestoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.

Brooklyn DA releases names of 46 convicted child sex-abusers who terrorized the Orthodox Jewish community from within
By Susan Edelman
New York Post - July 21, 2013

The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office has convicted 45 men — and one woman — in sex-attack cases in the Orthodox Jewish community since it began a crackdown more than four years ago, officials say.
DA Charles Hynes gave The Post their names, except for several juveniles, in a major shift from his prior stance that publicizing the perverts could expose the victims to vicious intimidation or deter others from coming forward.
“We feel now it’s good for the community to know those who have been convicted,” said spokesman Jerry Schmetterer.
Hynes, who is running for re-election, has come under fire from critics who charge that his policies pander to ultra-Orthodox voters.
Of 118 cases pursued under a program called Kol Tzedek, Hebrew for “voice of justice,” 25 sex offenders have gotten jail time, officials said. The longest sentence — 103 years — went to Nechemya Weberman, an unlicensed therapist who had abused a girl starting when she was 12.
The DA still refuses to name those arrested in pending cases for horrific crimes, including:
* The kidnapping and sexual assault of a 4-year-old girl;
* The sodomy of two young boys in a synagogue;
* A 33-year-old man accused of molesting three boys, 13, 14 and 15, in his yeshiva.
Of the convictions, 33 were felonies, 13 misdemeanors. Ten other offenders copped to violations. The only convicted woman sexually abused her son and was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison.
In some cases, the predators were not Orthodox Jewish, but the children were. For instance, Hector Valerdi, a yeshiva custodian, pleaded guilty to 1st Degree sex abuse last year after he molested a 10-year-old ultra-Orthodox girl.
DA officials say victims still fear ostracism for reporting a rapist or child molester from their religious community. At least 10 cases were dismissed and seven downgraded because victims backed out or parents refused to let their kids testify.
But prosecutors believe victims have gained courage since monsters like Weberman — whose supporters allegedly tried to bribe the victim and threaten her boyfriend’s business — have been put behind bars.
In a recent case, a DA team of lawyers, a social worker and a liaison to the Orthodox community visited a home where a man allegedly sodomized two stepsons. Long talks with the family and their rabbi finally yielded their cooperation. The stepdad pleaded guilty.
“More people are willing to come forward,” said Rhonnie Jaus, chief sex-crimes prosecutor. “There’s been a change in attitude — more accept coming into the criminal justice system.”
